Do you want to learn how to build your own website in a simple way? Create your own flyers, invoices, marketing materials in Canva? Promote your business on Facebook and Instagram in a DEADLY way and so much more? Register for our FREE Digital Skills Program.

Maganda Makers is partnering with Vocational Training Services (VTS) to deliver a FREE nine-workshop digital skills program designed especially for Kimberley Indigenous women who want to grow their business or bring a new idea to life.

This is a deadly opportunity to invest in yourself, learn new things, and connect with other Maganda Makers who are on the same journey. You will have wonderful tutors in each location and support from both VTS and the Maganda Makers team.

Workshops will be delivered in:

  • Broome

  • Derby

  • Halls Creek

  • Kununurra

Commencing late July and running as a complete nine-workshop program across nine months. See the workshop schedule in the photo below.

Who is Vocational Training Services (VTS)

Vocational Training Services (VTS) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) with many years of experience delivering practical, nationally recognised training across regional and remote Western Australia. Their focus is on providing accessible, hands-on learning that helps people build confidence, gain skills, and create real opportunities for employment, business, and lifelong learning.

Online Bush Foods & Botanicals Enterprise Development Initiative

Maganda Makers is proud to present the first of our online Bush Foods & Botanicals workshop series, running across three Fridays, with the wonderful Pat Torres – Founder, Owner and CEO of Mayi Harvests as our Expert Presenter. It is a great opportunity to take part if you weren’t able to join us for the face-to-face workshops.

Pat Mamanyjun Torres is a Djugun Elder from the West Kimberley and founder of Mayi Harvests, an Indigenous-owned bush food business established in 2006. Named after the bush fruit Mamanyjun and raised with deep family knowledge of native plants, she calls her path into bush foods a natural progression.

Mayi Harvests wild-harvests native produce - most notably the Kakadu plum (Gabiny) - using traditional methods tied to the six Kimberley seasons, hand-picking in small batches to keep the ecosystem in balance. Pat spent twelve years collecting Gabiny before branching into jams, chutneys, cordials and chilli belacan pastes.

Beyond the produce, she teaches the traditional use of plants and their ties to conservation, identity and history, seeing herself as an Elder and custodian passing that knowledge on to her family and community.

These sessions will be presented online via Zoom. The Zoom link will be provided upon registration.

Pat will share her knowledge and experience around bush plant identification and the importance of protecting Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) - particularly important for women working with bush foods, botanicals, traditional knowledge and products.
